Barcelona day 3 am: Kimi in new car
McLaren newboy Kimi Raikkonen got his first run in its 2002 contender, the MP4-17, at Barcelona this morning (Wednesday). His replacement at Sauber, Felipe Massa, also had his maiden outing in the new Petronas-powered C21 chassis
Raikkonen, who has been signed to replace Mika Hakkinen this year, took over the new car from David Coulthard, who reverted to last year's car for the day.
By 12.00 GMT, he had completed 12 laps and was almost 2secs slower than Coulthard, who was close to Alexander Wurz's new track record time set yesterday in the same car.
Sauber's Massa, who went off five times during the last Barcelona test, was told to take things easy with the new car, which is officially launched on Friday in Switzerland. He was third fastest this morning, sixth-tenths slower than Raikkonen, after completing 15 laps.
