BAR launch: Richards sets podium target

BAR team principal David Richards says qualifying in the top 10 at grands prix is the key to scoring points and podium finishes in 2003

Speaking at today's launch of the BAR 005 at Barcelona in Spain, Richards set out his targets for the coming season.

"I honestly think we'll be regular qualifiers in the top 10," said Richards. "If we can achieve that, we'll get podiums and score points on a regular basis. Twelve months from now, I want to look back and see this as the year BAR finally came of age."

Richards believes that the team's new challenger will provide the platform for his star driver line-up of Jacques Villeneuve and Jenson Button to join in the fight for honours.

He added: "With a much-improved car, Jacques will now be able to demonstrate his extraordinary talent, whilst Jenson, with three seasons under his belt, is well-positioned to challenge the frontrunners. Together with our third driver Takuma Sato, I feel that BAR now has a driver line-up that is the match of any in Formula 1."
