Austrian GP: Toro Rosso unsure about cause of failures

The Toro Rosso Formula 1 team says it will investigate the rear suspension on Daniil Kvyat's car, following his dramatic retirement from the Austrian Grand Prix

The Russian started as the highest placed of the Renault-powered runners in seventh, but pulled off with a deranged right rear wheel after a trip through the gravel on lap 25 of the race, complaining on the radio of having no brakes.

The Russian felt this as-yet-undiagnosed problem cost him a certain points finish.

"We were in a strong position to grab a top-eight finish today," Kvyat told AUTOSPORT.

"We still don't know what exactly happened. It felt like a puncture, but it could be suspension so it's too early to say any big conclusions.

"I felt some funny behaviour of the car the lap before - it started to move around a bit. "On the straight before Turn 3 my car started to move heavily to the left.

"I thought something was wrong with the weight distribution and the rear tyre just gave up before braking."

Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost said his team would investigate the suspension of Kvyat's car to determine what went wrong.

"Starting from seventh position and not finishing the race is quite disappointing," he said.

"We have to investigate the problem on Daniil's rear right suspension, as well as the brake problem on Jean-Eric [Vergne]'s car.

"Generally speaking the car showed a solid performance in qualifying and now we have work hard to transfer this also into a strong race result.

"It is a real shame that we were not able to do so here at the Red Bull Ring and in front of all the Red Bull family, but we are hopeful that we can come back stronger at the next race in Silverstone."
