Badoer Flies on Final Day at Jerez

Ferrari's test driver Luca Badoer posted the fastest time on the final day of testing at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in Southern Spain.

Ferrari's test driver Luca Badoer posted the fastest time on the final day of testing at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in Southern Spain.

Badoer, who was also quickest on Tuesday and Wednesday, set a blistering pace on this final day of work, posting a fastest lap of 1:18.486, less than a tenth of a second slower than the track record, set by Badoer himself at the end of last year.

Badoer and the rest of the drivers could finally seize the session, with the track being dry during the whole day. The Italian test driver finished nearly two seconds ahead of teammate Luciano Burti, who like Badoer was driving an F2002 chassis.

The Renault team were also on track today with both their drivers Jarno Trulli and Fernando Alonso. Trulli, again at the wheel of the hybrid R202 chassis, was the fastest of the two, while Alonso finished once more at the bottom of the timesheets.

The young Spaniard was hit by mechanical problems today and his car even caught fire after stopping at the Sito Pons corner.

Today's times:
