Bridgestone Upbeat after 70th F1 Win
Japanese manufacturer Bridgestone were delighted after scoring their 70th Formula One win in 100 starts since returning to the sport in the mid-90s, at today's race in Japan.
Japanese manufacturer Bridgestone were delighted after scoring their 70th Formula One win in 100 starts since returning to the sport in the mid-90s, at today's race in Japan.
World Champion Michael Schumacher led Ferrari teammate Rubens Barrichello to their 15th win of the 2002 season, completing a dominant year on which they have helped Bridgestone keep the upper hand over French rivals Michelin, who have clinched two victories.
"Everyone knows by now that this was Bridgestone's 100th Grand Prix and while it was a happy coincidence that it happened to be at Suzuka this means it is extra special for our staff who can celebrate the 70th Formula One win on our tyres at 'home'," said Shigeo Watanabe, Bridgestone's president.
"I must say thank you to Michael and Ferrari for achieving this for us. The challenge of Formula One is our passion and we look forward to celebrating more success in the future."
Bridgestone had even more reasons to celebrate today, with Jordan's Takuma Sato finishing in fifth place to the delight of the Japanese fans.
