Montoya Eyeing First Win of 2002

Williams driver Juan Pablo Montoya admitted he is confident of scoring his first win of the 2002 season at Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix after claiming a dramatic pole position on Saturday.

The Colombian has been denied a chance of victory so far this season, but after scoring his second pole of the year on Saturday, Montoya plans to end the Ferrari drivers' dominance by winning in Monte Carlo.

"It would be nice to get my first race of the year here," Montoya said. "I've been quite unlucky in some of the races, where I've had a chance to win. But it is a matter of time I think.

"The car looks really good and is working well so I hope I can have a good day tomorrow."

Montoya, who claimed pole with a late lap time to leapfrog McLaren's David Coulthard, said that his car had been perfect during the hour-long qualifying session.

"I kind of think it was really good," Montoya said of his quickest lap. "The car has been behaving really good. We made some changes in the morning and everything that we have done has been in the right direction and that makes things easier.

"We made a couple more changes in qualifying and we picked up a good amount of time right at the end. I tried to put a lap together and I did."

He added that it had been crucial to get a clear lap on the twisty street circuit and said: "It was a big help because right at the end is where you want to push hard. I've got to say I was very lucky like that."

Teammate Ralf Schumacher was fourth quickest.
