Williams Considering Introduction of 'B-Spec' Chassis

Williams-BMW team principal Frank Williams admitted on Thursday that his team are considering plans to develop a 'B-spec' car in a bid to close the gap to rivals and World Champions Ferrari.

The Italian giants have won every race since they introduced their radical new F2002, at the third race of the season in Brazil, and Williams claimed it is now one second per lap faster than his team's car.

Williams said that there was a possibility that his team will introduce another new car this season, in response to Ferrari's domination, but warned that it will take some time to complete.

"It's talked about, but I think that's jumping the gun," Willams said today in Monaco. "I think it would take several months. They've done some work already but I wouldn't want to answer when it would be ready because I don't know.

"Clearly all teams try and improve their product but I can truthfully say we have not made a positive decision about that matter at the moment."

The Ferrari is thought to have an innovative new gearbox that allows the team to narrow the rear bodywork, improving the flow around the rear wing, and Williams are believed to be keen to replicate the idea.
