Raikkonen Hoping for Some Points

Finn Kimi Raikkonen is hoping to score some points in tomorrow's Austrian Grand Prix following a disappointing qualifying for his McLaren team.

Finn Kimi Raikkonen is hoping to score some points in tomorrow's Austrian Grand Prix following a disappointing qualifying for his McLaren team.

Raikkonen has scored only four points so far in 2002 after retiring with mechanical problems in four of the five races, and on Saturday he and teammate David Coulthard failed to shine as they continue struggling for pace with the Mercedes-powered MP4-17.

"We would like to be higher up the grid but it was just not possible today," said the Finn after qualifying in sixth place. "I remember from last year that the Saubers are quick around this track, but we will see what happens in the race.

"We can't expect drastic improvements overnight, but we will work hard. My aim is to finish the race and score points."

Coulthard, who last time won a race at the Austrian Grand Prix last season, was outqualified by his younger teammate for the third consecutive race. After posting the eighth fastest time today, the Scot is not dreaming of repeating last year's result.

"Realistically our positions reflect our current level of performance," he said. "The session was always going to be quicker at the end with more rubber on the track, but unfortunately one of the Arrows cars spun in front of me, so I was unable to improve further.

"However we qualified in a similar position last year, and I won the race. I'm not saying that tomorrow will be a repeat performance, but it shows that you never know what might happen."
