Prost Should Have Moved to England, Says Jordan

Formula One team boss Eddie Jordan said Frenchman Alain Prost's motor racing team were hampered in their survival efforts by a refusal to relocate their headquarters to Britain.

Prost lost their fight for survival last month when the team were declared bankrupt with debts estimated at $28 million.

Four-time drivers' champion Prost said he would never work in his homeland again after the failure of his team and Jordan, whose operation is run out of a factory in Silverstone, said on Wednesday he had suggested that Prost should move to Britain before his troubles began.

"I remember talking to him before the problems and saying wouldn't he be far better off and not at least consider coming to the U.K.," Jordan told Autosport's website. "It's far more reasonable in terms of suppliers, people understanding motor racing, and it's cheaper to be able to get things manufactured."

"People here have a much more entrepreneurial idea about their business. In Germany or France, probably rightly so, there are hour restrictions and stuff. Motor racing in England hasn't and hopefully will never suffer from that. People want to work and do the hours that they need to do in specified times.

"I think that is one of the greatest attributes that Britain has and why Britain is such an outstanding place to run a Formula One team."

Seven of the eleven Formula One teams are based in England, while only Ferrari (Italy), Sauber (Switzerland), Minardi (Italy) and Toyota (Germany) have their factories somewhere else.
