Gavin to Test for Renault Again in 2002
Former Formula One safety car driver Oliver Gavin will test for the Renault team again this year, after previously testing for them in 2001.
Former Formula One safety car driver Oliver Gavin will test for the Renault team again this year, after previously testing for them in 2001.
Experienced driver Gavin, currently competing in a sportscar series in America, will help the Renault team test their new car alongside drivers Jenson Button and Jarno Trulli and official tester Fernando Alonso.
"I am going to be doing mainly straight line speed stuff as well as the launch control and traction control work," said Gavin. "I did work on the launch control with them last year and it all went very well. I enjoy working all the time and it is good getting into the car even if it is only straight line speed stuff."
Renault, the re-branded Benetton team, will use Gavin to increase the development of their new car in the hope of improved results for Briton Button and Italian Trulli. Gavin will probably test at the Danielson circuit in France, where the Benetton team carried out their straight line speed tests last year.
