Dominguez Aims to Race for Midland in 2006

Mexican Mario Dominguez has turned down an offer to be Jordan's reserve driver this season but could race for the Formula One team when they become Midland in 2006.

"I have signed a letter of intent to drive for the Midland Jordan team in 2006," he said in an interview with the autoracing1.com website.

Jordan were bought by the Midland Group of Russian-born Canadian businessman Alex Shnaider last month.

"It is not vital that I bring money to get the ride because the team and the series knows that if I am in the series there will be great interest in F1 from Mexican sponsors," added the Champ Car driver.

"However, with a lot of other drivers bringing money I am competing against them. I will do whatever I have to do to get the sponsors I need.

"I was offered a deal to be the third/Friday driver for 2005 and it did not require that I bring any money," said the Mexican who did one lap in the Jordan at Silverstone last week before bad weather prevented any further running," added Dominguez.

"I had to turn it down because I have a contract with HVM in Champ Car for 2005, a good contract that pays me well and I intend to honour it."

The 29-year-old Mexican finished fifth in the U.S. based Champ Car series last year.

"Yes, we have been in discussions with this driver but nothing has been agreed," said a Jordan spokeswoman. She could not say whether the discussions were for 2005 or 2006.

Jordan have signed India's Narain Karthikeyan and Portugal's Tiago Monteiro as race drivers this year.
