Jaguar Aiming to Keep Webber

Jaguar boss Tony Purnell says the Milton Keynes-based squad want to keep Australian driver Mark Webber next season.

Jaguar boss Tony Purnell says the Milton Keynes-based squad want to keep Australian driver Mark Webber next season.

"We have a contract with Mark, and if we fulfill the terms of the contract he'll have to fulfill his side," Purnell told Atlas F1 in an interview. "We think Mark's a super guy, and he's completely in line with how we want to run the team, so yes, I'd like to keep Webber."

Webber joined Jaguar at the start of last year and has a contract with them until the end of next season. The Australian, however, has been linked with a move to the Williams team to replace Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya, who will leave for McLaren when the season ends.

Purnell said, however, that if Jaguar lose Webber to another team, they will "have the best drivers we can put in the seats."

Webber scored all but one of Jaguar's 18 points last season, while this year the Australian has given his team the only point they have scored so far.
