Button Unconcerned by Elusive First Podium

BAR-Honda driver Jenson Button says he is frustrated as his quest to stand on the podium continues but has revealed he is planning a "mega party" when he finally does achieve a top-three result.

Button, who faces a fitness test today ahead of this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix following his crash in Monaco two weeks ago, is still searching for his first podium finish in Formula One. He believes that BAR-Honda have the car to put him into the top-three and he admits already planning big celebrations when he does achieve the result.

"When I finally get a podium I will have a mega party," Button said. "It is frustrating not to have got one because I have had many opportunities, but it doesn't demoralise me. In Formula One, sometimes you get a chance and sometimes you don't.

"The most important thing is to have a good car and the BAR is becoming a good car. I think we can think about podiums this season and without doubt we can next year. The most important thing for me is next season because this year is a year of transition for BAR."

Button also refuted suggestions that he is fighting with teammate Jacques Villeneuve for a seat in the team next year alongside BAR-Honda's third driver Takuma Sato. The 23-year-old has a long-term contract with BAR-Honda and insisted: "I have a contract. Certain journalists have written that Jacques and me have to prove our talent, and that it is between us who stays at BAR next season.

"It is false. My contract is solid. For the rest of the season I will work as hard as I can. I want to drive my car as quick as possible and that is it. I'm always going to be competitive with Jacques but it is more pleasant now. The atmosphere is still tender occasionally but we are capable of having a laugh.

"Things are going well for me at the moment but it could all turn around in two months and you can never say never with him."
