Raikkonen Targeting Points Finish

Finn Kimi Raikkonen will aim to finish in the points in tomorrow's Spanish Grand Prix despite having to take the start from the back of the grid.

Finn Kimi Raikkonen will aim to finish in the points in tomorrow's Spanish Grand Prix despite having to take the start from the back of the grid.

The McLaren driver went off the track during his flying lap and his team decided to abort the run in order to be able to work on the car overnight. Raikkonen, the Championship leader after the first four races of the season, is still aiming to finish in a point-scoring position.

"It was a shame as I was quick, but these things happen," admitted Raikkonen, who finished third in the Australian Grand Prix despite starting from the pitlane. "The team told me to abandon the lap and come back, as there was no way I would have ended up with a competitive time.

"I will start the race from last on the grid, which is obviously less than ideal but as the races have shown so far this year anything can happen, and we will do our best to get into the points."

Scot David Coulthard had a better session than his teammate, although he too failed to match the pace of the dominant Ferraris. Coulthard, who used the spare McLaren for qualifying due to an engine problem in his racing car, wound up eighth fastest more than a second behind pole-setter Michael Schumacher.

"Obviously we had to make a few adjustments to the spare car, as it was set up for Kimi," said Coulthard. "However, after this morning's session I was going to use Kimi's settings anyway so all in all I'm not too unhappy with fourth row considering that it was the first time I drove the car. Now we will see what happens in the race and hope for the best."
