Arrows drivers Jos Verstappen and Enrique Bernoldi were both forced to recover from mechanical problems with their A22 cars to avoid posting the slowest times in Friday's practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Verstappen's car required an engine change in the morning session and Bernoldi was sidelined while his car received an hydraulics change to remedy a clutch problem. Both drivers returned to the track and Verstappen finished the day 15th and Bernoldi was 18th.
"First and foremost I want to thank my mechanics for doing a fantastic job," said Verstappen. "The engine change we had to do between the sessions was the fastest they have done so far.
"The sensor problem in the first session basically lost us the morning's track time so this afternoon was spent evaluating tyres.
"We're still a long way out on set-up so there's a lot of work to be done there but hopefully we can make up for lost time on Saturday."
Verstappen's teammate Bernoldi also praised the mechanics and was equally as optimistic after the team's afternoon session.
"We had a problem with the clutch this morning which cut our track time," Bernoldi said. "This afternoon we managed to do a lot more laps which is necessary for me to learn the circuit.
"I would also like to thank my mechanics for their speedy work in these difficult conditions. Like Jos, we still have to do our set-up work and hope to find more pace on Saturday."
