Arrows loses survival fight

The Arrows Formula 1 team has lost its prolonged survival battle after it was placed into liquidation on Tuesday, bringing an end to an adventure that began in 1978 yet yielded no wins

The final straw came when a judge granted a winding up order against the team on behalf of former driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who is seeking payment for his wages owed from his stint with the team during the 2002 season.

PKF, the receivers called in to look after the team's assets at the start of the year, have put all of its chassis, which include the three-seater AX3 demonstrator and some prototype models, up for sale.

Arrows' demise comes on the eve of yet another meeting between motorsport's governing body, the FIA, president Max Mosley and the team principals as they try to agree on how to reduce the spiralling costs of Formula 1 in the face of a global economic downturn.

News from today's meeting will appear on the www.autosport.com as it breaks.
