Anderson Not Leaving; Set for Role Change in Jordan

Jordan director of race and test engineering Gary Anderson said on Sunday that he will be "hanging back" in the future after refuting rumours at Hockenheim that he had resigned.

Anderson, who helped set up the team with close friend Eddie Jordan in 1990, is now in his second spell with them but the Silverstone-based outfit have struggled this year because of a lack of spending power.

He quit his post in 1998 after a disastrous first half to the season, but he was angered by suggestions made on ITV that he has handed in his resignation for a second time.

"It shouldn't have come out the way it did and it was wrong," said Anderson. "I am staying at Jordan, I will be at 99 percent of the races next year and I will be here to help.

"I am just going to hang back a bit because I didn't want to do this forever at my age, so we are bringing up some younger people from within.

"I am here to help them but I am not going to be here seven days a week. It is about trying to motivate some of the young guys. It is not as black and white as people see it."

Jordan's cars finished 12th and 18th in qualifying for Sunday's German Grand Prix but they are facing an uncertain future after losing a High Court battle with Vodafone.
