Alonso hopes wings controversy is over
World champion Fernando Alonso hopes that Formula One can put the controversy over flexi-wings behind it at this weekend's Australian Grand Prix
The first two races of the season were dominated off-track by suspicions that some teams were running front or rear wings that illegally flexed at high-speed - even though they were found to be within the regulations when tested in the pits.
After the situation nearly boiled over into a protest against Ferrari at the Malaysian Grand Prix, the Italian team, along with BMW-Sauber and McLaren, have made modifications to their wings for this weekend that should alleviate rivals' concerns.
And Alonso has said that he is keeping his fingers crossed that teams can move on from the problem and stop worrying about what their rivals are up to.
"For us (the drivers) it was really difficult to see anything, but there were video recordings and there have been a lot of discussions," he said when asked about the flexi-wing saga in Melbourne.
"Hopefully, we will all stay with the same legal wings now, and we have no more problems on this with some teams."
