Alonso eyes win despite no front row

World champion Fernando Alonso says he is still eyeing victory in the British Grand Prix despite missing out on a front row start

The McLaren driver was unable to match the pace of teammate Lewis Hamilton or Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen, having to settle for third place, albeit less than two tenths behind the British rookie.

Alonso admitted he felt comfortable with the car, and he is hopeful he will be able to beat the two cars in front tomorrow.

"It was quite good, no big problems with the lap and I am quite happy with the car," said Alonso, 14 points behind Hamilton in the championship.

"Obviously we want to be on pole position but third is the best we could do today and hopefully tomorrow it will pay off. We have a good set-up for the race and we'll see if we can overtake people.

"I think we will see what happens tomorrow, today I didn't have an easy day in Q3 but tomorrow I will try to win the race, that is for sure."
