Alonso calls for changes to Renault car

Fernando Alonso has urged his Renault team to introduce updates that will make his car faster after a disappointing Turkish Grand Prix

The two-time champion, who has scored just 11 points in seven races, finished a distant 10th in Istanbul, despite having started from eight position.

Alonso said his strategy had nothing to do with the result, and admitted Renault is simply too slow.

"It's the position we deserve, which is 10th position," Alonso told Spanish network La Sexta. "When you are so slow there is nothing you can do.

"If you start a heavy fuel load, you start at the bottom, and if you go light you lose the positions in the race.

"What we need is to go half a second quicker and then any strategy works."

The Spaniard said Renault mush react quickly with some significant changes to its car, as he reckons the French squad is among the slowest of the field.

"We need changes, any changes," he said. I'd welcome any new part. We have been using the same car since Bahrain and we are going worse and worse, and until we introduce a part that improves the car it will be hard.

"We are the seventh team now, and we are aware. We are going to keep working to try and make up ground."
