Alesi Delighted with Second McLaren Test

Former Grand Prix star Jean Alesi was delighted after testing for the McLaren team for the second time this season at the Mugello circuit on Tuesday.

Former Grand Prix star Jean Alesi was delighted after testing for the McLaren team for the second time this season at the Mugello circuit on Tuesday.

The 37-year old Grand Prix veteran completed 90 laps of the Italian track as he continued to help the struggling team with his vast amount of knowledge gained from 12 years in Formula One racing.

"I am very happy and it is a very nice experience to work with the team again," said Alesi at the end of the day. "I like Mugello and I was not looking for a special lap time, I was just there to develop things for the team."

Alesi will contest the German Touring Car Championship for Mercedes this year, but is keen to continue testing and his manager, Mario Miyakawa, revealed that he could become official test driver for the team, and that talks with the Woking-based squad have reached a crucial stage.

"We are in very serious talks with McLaren," said Miyakawa. "And although nothing is yet defined, the fact that Jean was invited to do another test with the team shows something."
