Korean GP a big success, says Brawn

Formula 1 came away from the Korean Grand Prix in a positive mood following the inaugural race in the country

Despite long-running doubts in the build up to the Korean race about whether or not it would happen, and bad weather forcing the start of the event to be delayed, F1 figures said they had been pleasantly surprised about how things turned out.

Mercedes GP team principal Ross Brawn said: "I think the rain was a shame for the crowd although it created quite an event in many ways. But I think it has been a tremendous success. There were great crowds and it is a great circuit, which needs a bit fine tuning, but it is a good venue for us."

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh added: "I think they have got to finish it off, but the circuit isn't that bad. I don't think we saw the best of it.

"The pitlane entry and exit will probably get changed for next year, and I imagine some kerbing will get changed, but I think this will be quite a decent racing circuit."

Korean organisers apologised at the weekend for any teething problems that teams experienced over the weekend, and have already promised to help improve the infrastructure for next year - which will include better hotels for F1 teams. Tweaks are also likely to be made to the circuit - especially the pit lane entry and exit.

Lewis Hamilton said he was delighted with what he had experienced over the weekend.

"I think they did a great job, and for the first grand prix they did a fantastic job," he said. "They started the race maybe a little bit late, but the conditions did not change much over that hour.

"I like this circuit. It's a fantastic circuit, and it is rare that we have a new circuit that all the drivers like. It was great to see so many fans here in Korea, and really great to see the grandstands packed. I am looking forward to seeing everyone here again."
