Grapevine: Brown presents Hamilton with award
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown paid tribute to Lewis Hamilton's world championship success on Monday when he presented the McLaren driver with a prestigious BRDC Gold Star
Fresh from winning the International Racing Driver of the Year trophy at the Autosport Awards, Hamilton was the centre of attention at the end-of-season British Racing Drivers' Club Awards ceremony in London.
And on top of earning two BRDC Gold Stars, Hamilton was handed one of them - the Richard Seaman Trophy - by Brown.
Speaking after handing him the trophy, Brown said: "On behalf of the whole British people I am delighted to be able to present this award to Lewis Hamilton who is a true world champion.
"His success has brought so much and put Great Britain truly on the sporting map - it is a great honour to present him with this award."
Hamilton added: "It is an amazing honour for me. I never thought in my life I would have an award presented to me by the Prime Minister."
At the BRDC ceremony it was announced that Stirling Moss would be made vice-president of the club for life - the first time that has even been done.
"This out trumps my 10 Gold Stars," said Moss. "I am really honoured. I hope I live long enough to be able to give it justice."
