Grapevine: Hamilton shortlisted for BBC award
Lewis Hamilton has been shortlisted as one of the ten candidates for this year's BBC Sports Personality of the Year award
The shortlist was generated from the votes of a range of newspapers and sports magazines in the UK, and the winner will be decided by a public phone vote on the night of the awards on December 14.
Hamilton's rivals on the shortlist are last year's winner, boxer Joe Calzaghe, tennis player Andy Murray and Olympians, swimmer Rebecca Adlington, cyclists Nicole Cooke, Chris Hoy, Rebecca Romero and Bradley Wiggins, sailor Ben Ainslie and 400m runner Christine Ohuruogu.
The last racing driver to win the award was Damon Hill, who won in 1994 and in his championship season of 1996. Fellow world champion Nigel Mansell is also a two-time winner in 1986 and 1992, while Jackie Stewart (1973), Stirling Moss (1961) and John Surtees (1959) won the award once each.
David Coulthard and Jenson Button have been shortlisted for the award in the past, as were Hamilton and MotoGP rider James Toseland last year.
