Button savours 'perfect' end of season

The Honda driver recovered from a dismal qualifying to finish in third place, his third podium finish of the year.

Button had been hindered by electronic problems in qualifying, meaning he started the race from a disappointing 13th position.

But he charged through the field to finish right behind two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.

"After starting so far down it is a great result for me and perfect to end the year and probably one of the most enjoyable races I had," said the Briton. "It wasn't just done through the pitstops it was with some hard fighting.

"We could not have challenged Felipe but definitely second was possible. Obviously Fernando was controlling the pace and I could not do anything about it. They had very good straightline pace."

Button has finished in sixth place in the standings, having scored his maiden win at the Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this season.

Button congratulates both Alonso for taking his second title and Brazilian Felipe Massa, who scored his second Formula One win.

"For these two it is a very, very special day. Felipe winning his home Grand Prix and Fernando winning the championship so a massive well done for them," said Button.
