Villeneuve surprised by BMW pace
Jacques Villeneuve admitted he was surprised by his BMW Sauber team's start to the Malaysian Grand Prix in practice
The BMW driver, using a fresh engine after retiring from the Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend, started the weekend in promising fashion after posting the ninth quickest time in Friday's practice at Sepang.
He was seventh quickest of racing drivers.
"It was a pretty good start for us today," said the Canadian, who completed just nine laps in the afternoon session.
"To be honest, much better than I expected. The balance of the F1.06 was really good, which is very important so early in the weekend. I had a completely trouble-free day and it was fun to drive with the high level of grip available."
His teammate Nick Heidfeld completed a promising start for the team by setting the 12th quickest time.
The German, like Villeneuve, admitted he was happy with the F1.06 right from the start of the weekend.
"Our first day of practice was fine, so I'm quite happy," Heidfeld added. "This afternoon it wasn't necessary for me to do a lot of running, because the balance of the car felt good straight away. Sepang is a circuit I really enjoy, driving is so much fun here."
