Schuey says Coulthard is a contender
David Coulthard will be a title contender this year, despite failing to score in the first two Grands Prix, according to Michael Schumacher
'I think Mika [Hakkinen] and I will have a third driver fighting with us,' he said. 'David Coulthard had some bad luck but was bloody quick this weekend.'
Coulthard has admitted that he is already worried about losing ground in this year's World Championship, after failing to score in last weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix while title rivals Schumacher and Hakkinen finished first and second.
He stalled at the start and was later sidelined by a gearbox failure. McLaren technical director Adrian Newey said that Coulthard had 'made a mess of the start'.
Coulthard had pushed Hakkinen hard throughout the weekend on what has traditionally been a track where the Scot has struggled.
He said, 'This time last year I had 12 points. To be well down is not ideal. I was disappointed to lose the points, but I go well at Imola and I believe the team will get on top of the reliability.'
