Monteiro Wins Right to Race EJ15B
Tiago Monteiro will get his hands on Jordan's new EJ15B for next week's Italian Grand Prix after winning a coin toss against teammate Narain Karthikeyan
The Portuguese driver has been helping development work of the new chassis at Monza this week - safe in the knowledge that he will be the only driver using the car next weekend.
It comes after Jordan decided that they would only be able to press one of the cars into action in Italy following lengthy delays to overcome cooling issues.
The team felt that the fairest way to decide which of their drivers would get the car would be to toss a coin. The outcome of the event, which took place in Turkey after the concept of coin tossing had been explained to Karthikeyan, fell in Monteiro's favour.
Jordan's sporting director Adrian Burgess told Autosport-Atlas that the team had high hopes for the car after testing at Monza this week.
"The car is definitely better," he said. "But we don't know how much better because we are at the lowest downforce track we use. How good it is we will only see on the Friday of the Grand Prix."
