Heidfeld Confident for Future

The German is understood to only have a one-year contract with Williams - and that means he could be forced to move on in 2006 if Jenson Button does make the switch from BAR.

But despite being no guarantees over his future, Heidfeld claims he has got no worries that he will be forced to sit on the sidelines.

And amid growing speculation that Button does not actually want to make the switch to Williams and instead wants to remain at BAR next season, Heidfeld has emerged as favourite to stay on at his current team.

"It is not all done for next year, we are in talks at the moment and it will be a few weeks or months. I think until I will know where I drive next year," he said.

"But unlike the last couple of years I can happily look into next season as I am quite convinced I will be in a good car."

Autosport-Atlas understands that Heidfeld's management team have held talks with BAR, while the German has also been strongly linked with a possible switch to the new BMW-Sauber outfit.

Speaking about the latter option, Heidfeld said: "Of course there were rumours immediately, which is understandable, with BMW being a German manufacturer, me getting on with them well and Sauber, who I was with for three years.

"I enjoyed my time there a lot, I still know a lot of people and I live in Switzerland, so from that perspective it makes all perfect sense.

"At the end of the day I want to win the World Championship and it doesn't matter with which team, I just want the strongest team possible."
