Schumacher not Worried over Dust Scare

The controversy reared its head earlier this week when former Grand Prix driver Mika Salo discovered that dust was found in his lungs after a visit to the doctors for a medical check.

He said: "There was really a lot of that dust in my lungs. If I have this much of it, how much will Michael Schumacher, who has driven 10 years longer than me, have?"

But Schumacher's spokeswoman Sabine Kehm claims that there are no concerns from the seven-times World Champion about the state of his lungs.

"Michael regularly undergoes medical checks by specialists and this problem has never emerged," she told Gazzetta dello Sport. "Everybody knows how careful he is with his health and his body."

German daily Express quoted Martin Diekmann, a famous Cologne-based doctor, who believed that there was no reason for drivers to be worried about the presence of carbon fibre dust in their lungs.

"Carbon fibre dust is not a health hazard and there's no way it can be carcinogenic," he said. "Whoever lives near a busy junction breathes in more polluting dust than an F1 driver."
