Schumacher: Not the Right Way to Win

World Champion Michael Schumacher said that his victory in the controversial United States Grand Prix was not the 'right way to win' following the withdrawal of rivals Michelin

The Ferrari ace fended off his teammate Rubens Barrichello to secure Ferrari's first victory of the season but was clearly far from happy about the circumstances that have thrust him back into contention for the World Championship.

"It was only the two of us but the team said 'let's go and have fun'," explained Schumacher. "That is what we had amongst us. It was a bit of a strange Grand Prix and it was not the right way to win my first one this year, but it is no big disaster anyway."

Schumacher said that prior to the start of the race he was not sure what the Michelin runners had planned to do.

"We did not know exactly what they were going to," he explained. "We heard certain things but we were concentrating on ourselves honestly."

And although marshals had to retrieve beer cans and water bottles thrown onto the track by angry race fans, Schumacher said he had no problem with track debris.

"It was mainly bottles - a bit of beer as far as I could smell in the first corner," he explained. "But conditions were okay, no problem."
