Ecclestone: Schumacher can Still Win WC
Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone believes Michael Schumacher can still win his eighth world title this year despite his worst start to a Championship
"Schumacher can win the title, there are still 140 points at stake, he can do it and obviously I don't think he can be considered old," the 74-year-old Ecclestone told reporters at the Monaco Grand Prix, adding that Schumacher was also unlikely to retire at the end of the year.
"If he doesn't win the title this season then he will be even more motivated next year."
Schumacher has just 10 points after five races while Renault's Championship leader Fernando Alonso has 44 after three victories.
Ferrari, Constructors' Champions for the last six years, won 15 of 18 races last year but are now on a losing streak of six defeats in a row.
"The Ferrari that wins all the time is a problem; the Ferrari that does not win is [also] a problem," said Ecclestone. "The important thing is for it to be competitive, to win at least a few races. Formula One needs Ferrari."
