Jerez 4: Wurz tops final day

Alexander Wurz ended this week's Formula 1 test at Jerez in Spain with the quickest time for McLaren, but the pit-lane was in agreement that the week had been pretty much a waste of time thanks to the persistent rain

Following days of wet weather, the teams had hoped that they would be greeted by sunshine on Saturday, but those hopes evaporated with a massive downpour once again affecting the day's running. Conditions did ease from about 4pm, however, allowing the teams a brief respite to get some dry running.

McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa, who was just one hundredth of a second slower than Wurz, spoke for much of the field when expressing his frustration at the week's running. "I think I did three consecutive laps in three days of running," he told autosport.com. "We didn't get very much done at all and the team has been saving parts for next week's test."

Jarno Trulli returned to the cockpit for the first time since Wednesday, having been forced out for two days after needing doctors to remove a small piece of metal that had become lodged in his right eye.

"I guess I must have picked it up while I was testing," he said. "The specialist was able to take it out, but the discomfort meant that I had to miss out on driving the car for two days."
