McLaren targets more wins

"I think Silverstone gave us the belief we could win and we should have won at Hockenheim," Dennis maintained. "The car should perform well on the balance of the circuits and the tyre battle will swing back and forth. The remaining races are going to be very linked to tyre performance but all things being equal, I do think that we can win some of the other Grands Prix."

Talking specifically about beating Ferrari and Schumacher, Dennis added: "We've won two world championships against Michael and he's not invincible. He's done a tremendous job and congratulations on his championship, but what is satisfying and a small bonus for McLaren is that Ferrari now can't win all but one of the races, which is something we did in '88."

Dennis is hopeful that Spa could signal the start of a new cycle of success in Formula 1.

"We've enjoyed our own periods of dominance and hopefully this is the start of theirs declining," he said, "But they are a tough and well-run team with very competent drivers and they are never going to be easy to beat."
