Williams hits out at BAR claim
WilliamsF1 has hit back at BAR's claim that the FIA-recognised Contracts Recognition Board (CRB) in Switzerland has acknowledged that the Brackley-based team holds the only valid contract for Jenson Button's services in 2005
In a statement, Williams clarified that the CRB is not FIA-controlled, as the BAR release suggests, but that it is an independent body set up under the Concorde Agreement between the F1 teams, the commercial rights holder (FOM) and the sport's governing body, the FIA. The statement said that BAR was "wholly incorrect to refer or indicate that the decisions made by the CRB are an endorsement of a legal position by the FIA".
It went on to claim that BAR's statement was "misleading" as Williams deposited a contract with Jenson Button with the CRB on October 22, 2002.
The Williams statement added: "BAR has registered what they believe to be a valid claim over Jenson Button for 2005. The CRB have not endorsed the validity of this claim, but have simply confirmed receipt of BAR's documentation. This does not mean that their contract is valid, or holds precedence over other contracts with Jenson Button."
