DC says why not London?

Famous promoter Harvey Goldsmith was quoted in the national press saying that there is a layer of bureaucracy in London that is keen to make sure that nothing happens, but the drivers, both of whom took part in this week's Regent Street parade, believe that if the obstacles can be overcome, London would make a great venue.

"We race in Monte Carlo and you'd have to say that if we can do that, then you'd have more scope in London," said David Coulthard. "I suppose it's just a case of getting everyone to agree. You could imagine the paddock area being in Hyde Park and then having a very wide street circuit and the opportunity for some good racing.

"It's a shame we didn't have a bit more of an open track to let the cars run on but it was quite scary to see people hanging off buildings. It's great that F1, with a relatively small amount of promotion could attract so many people. There were estimates of 250,000 and more. A race might be a dream, but if you can get a demonstration organised, then why not?"

Both Button and Coulthard drove F1 cars in Tuesday's London demonstration and Jenson added: "It was a fantastic turn-out and hearing the sound of the engines close to the buildings was great. It was a great show but the logistics were very difficult and they did a great job. It was a pretty special atmosphere, especially with the doughnuts at the end! It would be great to see a race there in the future."
