JPM predicts London spectacle
Williams ace Juan Pablo Montoya thinks the fans at this afternoon's F1 parade along London's Regent Street could be treated to the sight of cars being driven flat out. But the Colombian reckons it's more likely that F1's stars will play to the gallery and indulge in crowd-pleasing burn-outs
The exhibition, which will also feature British aces Nigel Mansell, Jenson Button, David Coulthard and Martin Brundle and eight of this year's world championship teams, was thought to have been a low speed demonstration run. But Montoya's comments during a press conference today at the famous Hamley's toy shop have opened up the possibility that it could become a real spectacle.
"If you want to go quick you can but it's very bumpy but you should be able to," said the Colombian. "But we are doing it for the crowds really so there should be lots of smoke...
"I don't think in my condition I'm going to go out and try and beat everybody. It will be more like Goodwood, spin the wheels a lot, loads of smoke... you know.
"It would be good if they had speed cameras here they can get a couple of shots of my car."
Asked who he thought might win a grand prix set around the streets of London the BMW WilliamsF1 driver said: "A race here would be awesome. It's hard to say who would win... because on a street circuit things can change.
"It could be any of the top four teams. Ferrari seems to have the edge on everybody, But behind them it's not so clear who is ahead. One race its Renault, next race it's us then BAR and now McLaren look like they're getting stronger so who knows."
