Ralf to decide next week
Williams will wait until early next week to decide whether Ralf Schumacher will race at the French Grand Prix on July 4. The German suffered from bruising and a severe concussion after a puncture to his left rear wheel threw him into the wall on the fastest part of the track at the United States GP last weekend
Schumacher spent the night in hospital under observation but is now resting at home in Austria. The German says it is too soon to make a decision but when he does he will seek the advice of F1's medical delegate Sid Watkins and team boss Frank Williams.
"As it's only been four days since I was released from hospital following the accident in Indianapolis, I can not, at this stage, make a decision as to whether I will take part in next weekend's race in Magny-Cours," he said.
"I am taking full advantage of the two-week break between Indy and France to rest and recuperate from the accident. When the time comes to make the decision, I will be guided by Professor Sid Watkins' advice and speak to Frank Williams about the best course of action."
Technical director Sam Michael added: "Ralf is recovering well after the accident in Indianapolis, but it is not yet known whether he will be fit enough to take part in the French Grand Prix. We will be in a position to confirm our driver line up early next week."
Williams is prepared should Schumacher not race - reserve driver Marc Gene has been testing the FW26 at Jerez this week practising his pitstops alongside his development work.
