Ferrari has 'super-soft' option
Ferrari and Bridgestone are hoping that a new super-soft tyre construction being made available to the Italian team for the Monaco Grand Prix will cure the team's dip in performance during the first lap of a race
Michael Schumacher struggled during the first lap of the last two races in Imola and Barcelona and Ferrari's Michelin-shod rivals, BAR-Honda, Renault and BMW WilliamsF1 have all targeted Monaco as a potential weak track for the team. Particularly since overtaking virtually is impossible on the street circuit
Ferrari's technical director Ross Brawn reckons that the result of this weekend's race hinges entirely on the state of the tyre war. "It's going to depend totally on the tyres," he said, "and we've had some good results with the new tyres in tests."
"We are much better prepared than we were last year and, even though we have had to sacrifice a little consistency, we are much happier with our one-lap pace."
