Pantano plans learning period
New Jordan signing Giorgio Pantano says that he'll be treating the first few races of 2004 as a learning exercise, according to a feature in this week's AUTOSPORT Magazine. With a distinct lack of testing time on his side, he admits he'll still be settling in when he gets to Melbourne.
"I am not sure if I can be at the limit of the car in Australia," says the Italian. "My first Grand Prix is probably going to be a case of getting more feeling for the car, to understand everything more and then probably after two or three races I will nearly be ready."
Pantano has now got just two days of testing before he jets off to his debut Formula 1 race. He'll run at Silverstone next week, having only had limited running at Imola since his deal was done. He's keeping realistic about what he and the Bridgestone-shod Jordan can achieve this year.
"I don't want to say I am looking to score some points, but if they come, it will be quite good for me. I have seen that the Michelins are quite strong, and Bridgestone are working quite hard to come on the same level as them now.
"It will be quite difficult to score some points, but you know I must try to finish the races and do the best I can."
