Davidson targets race seat

BAR test driver Anthony Davidson has said he intends to impress in front of the Formula 1 team bosses during Friday practice sessions at grands prix this year

Davidson will drive a third BAR on Friday as part of the new rules which allow the bottom six F1 teams the chance to accrue more laps on the opening day of each race weekend. The young Briton admitted that he is frustrated at not being able to secure a race seat for 2004, but says his Friday role is the next best thing.

"At least I'll be able to drive on Fridays now and show what I can do," said Davidson, who has started two grands prix for Minardi. "I will be pushing to secure a race seat in years to come."

Team principal David Richards referred to Davidson as a 'stalwart' of the test team, and Anthony said he was well aware that he will play a key role this year.

"It's going to be very important to run the third car this year," said Davidson. "There was a lot of teams who took the option last year and it was of benefit to them. It's been very positive so far, the testing has gone well and I feel very involved with the team. I think I've done more miles this year than I did in all of last year.
