Alonso aims to improve

Renault drivers Fernando Alonso and Jarno Trulli were in confident mood at the launch of the team's new R24 in Sicily today (Thursday), buoyed by the impressive form displayed by the new machine in testing at Barcelona last week

Alonso, who set the fastest time achieved by a full 2004 car at the Spanish track during the test, has said that his goal for this season is to improve on his results from last year. In 2003, the Spaniard took one win and three podiums, finishing sixth overall in the drivers' standings.

Speaking about last week's test Alonso said: "It was a good experience, but times are not very important in the winter. The car ran with no problems so it should be a good season. As a racing driver you always want to improve your results, although it will be difficult after one win and several podiums last year. But we'll work hard on it. We have competitive people so I'm sure we can do it."

Team-mate Trulli added: "Last week's test went pretty well. We did a lot of mileage with no problems, so it was pretty good. The car was one the pace straight away so I'm quite confident for this year. It think we will be competitive everywhere. I hope that means from Australia through to the last race. We want to try to get several podium finishes this year."
