Jacques: I won't take part in shoot-out
Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve has said there is no way he would be willing to take part in a driver shoot-out in order to keep his BAR-Honda seat in Formula 1 for 2004
Earlier this week, BAR team principal David Richards told the British press that he was considering a shoot-out for its vacant seat alongside Jenson Button as part of a Formula 1 'Fame Academy'-style reality TV programme. Villeneuve, who still remains in the frame for the drive, said he will not to take in such a scheme.
"I had a shoot-out in 1997," he told autosport.com, referring to his successful title showdown with Ferrari's Michael Schumacher at Jerez, "A shoot-out is for new up and coming drivers. I wouldn't do it, you wouldn't do it and Madonna wouldn't do it. I wouldn't do it."
Villeneuve has said that Honda is the prime mover behind his expected removal from BAR, and he claims the Japanese manufacturer wants Takuma Sato to drive for the team.
According to AUTOSPORT sources, F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has now stepped in to ensure that Villeneuve stays in the category in 2004.
