Firman decides to skip Monza test
British rookie Ralph Firman has decided not to take part in this weeks' Formula 1 test at Monza following his huge crash in practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix
The Jordan driver escaped from the 150mph shunt, caused when the rear wing fell off his car, with just a badly bruised left heel and a concussion. It was estimated that the force of the impact was 46G.
Following the accident, Firman stated his intention to return to his car in time for this week's test at Monza, which marks the end of Formula 1's summer testing ban. However, despite his quick recovery from the crash the Briton has made the decision to skip the test, in order to take more time to fully recover and resume training in time for the Italian Grand Prix.
Since his return from Hungary, Firman has been consulting with Formula 1 doctor Professor Syd Watkins. In the release explaining his decision not to test, Firman passed on his thanks to everyone who has expressed support since the crash.
