Firman aims to return for Monza test
Scans and X-rays to Ralph Firman at the Orszagos Traumatologiai Intezet hospital near Budapest have all come back clear, and the British Jordan-Ford driver is aiming to be fit to drive in the Monza test at the beginning of next month
Firman will remain in hospital as a precaution tonight, having suffered concussion, but intends to watch the race with the team at the circuit tomorrow.
"I'm keen to get back out there, see everyone tomorrow and concentrate on being fit for the Monza test," said Firman, who intends to be back in his seat well before the Italian Grand Prix on September 14.
FIA medical delegate Sid Watkins reported: "Ralph had a big accident with huge lateral impact into the barrier at high speed. He was briefly unconscious but soon started to recover. He was concussed but soon recognised me and behaved normally.
"The fact that his head injury was so minor is a tribute to the construction of the car and the safety measures of the cockpit. The head and neck protective foam clearly absorbed a great deal of energy. The introduction of the high side protective foam and the HANS device have been a major step in improving the protection of the driver."
