Jordan in no rush to sign driver
The Jordan team has moved to dampen speculation on who will join Giancarlo Fisichella in its driver line-up this year
Only two race drives in Formula 1 are yet to be confirmed for 2003: one at Jordan, the other at Minardi. Unsurprisingly, the lists of contenders for the drives are long. Eddie Irvine continues to be linked to Jordan, but a team statement over the weekend made it clear that an announcement on who will take the drive is still some way off.
"In spite of intense media speculation concerning various drivers and their possible links with Jordan, the team has made no decision concerning either the second race seat or reserve driver," it read.
"Team boss Eddie Jordan is concentrating on finalising sponsorship agreements prior to making any decisions or announcements regarding the driver line-up, so the stories linking the team definitively with certain drivers are rather wide of the mark."
The Silverstone-based team has admitted that the choice of driver will come down to money. Jordan is seriously short of funds for 2003 and is negotiating for a new title sponsor, another factor likely to influence who is eventually signed.
