Jordan backs weight penalties
Eddie Jordan has backed the FIA's idea of imposing weight penalties on successful teams, saying it would make Formula 1 a more exciting sport to watch
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live earlier today (Monday), Jordan said: " I think it is an excellent, proven, guaranteed way of levelling out the field."
The proposal will be discussed at the next meeting of the F1 commission on October 28 and Jordan reckons FIA bosses Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone will face a tough task to persuade all team bosses to embrace the notion of handicapping.
"One of the reasons that Bernie Ecclestone has headlined the weight penalty is that it is very easy to put in place and manage and have regulations controlling it," Jordan said. "The teams would never agree to it en masse so he has to be quite tough and draconian and put in something that he firmly believes will put F1 back to the footing it had."
So far this season Ferrari has won 14 of 16 races and Jordan agrees this is a situation that is unhealthy for the sport.
"We need a very exciting championship that is TV-pleasant to everybody."
