Barcelona, day 4: DC finishes on top
The fourth and final day of pre-US GP testing at Barcelona ended with a familiar look to the top of the timesheet, as David Coulthard made it a clean sweep of fastest times for McLaren
The Scot had a busy day, covering 106 laps of the track. He began the day with a developmental car fitted with some new pieces, but when this picked up a problem in the morning he switched to the standard chassis for some Michelin tyre testing.
"Testing here was a combination of everything," he said. "Tyres, engine, future programmes. Like always it's hard to say how we'll do in Indy. The tyres we tested here were inconclusive as this track is very different to Indy. At the moment the car is not the way I like it, but we'll see how it goes."
Antonia Pizzonia was next up, just a tenth slower than Coulthard in the Jaguar R3. (For separate story, click here.)
Marc Gene just ran in the morning for Williams as he concluded a tyre test programme. Olivier Panis' final test for BAR was a bit of a damp squib as the Frenchman's running was interrupted by an engine software failure in the morning and gearbox troubles in the afternoon.
