Frentzen will race at Indy
Sauber has announced that Heinz-Harald Frentzen will race at the US GP at Indianapolis next weekend in place of Felipe Massa
Frentzen tested the C21 at Silverstone yesterday, and was comfortable enough in the car to set the day's fastest time. With Massa penalised 10 starting places on the grid for the race at Indy, team boss Peter Sauber said the decision was in the best interest of his team.
"The decision puts us in a strong position to defend our championship position," said Sauber. "Heinz-Harald made a very strong impression at Silverstone and he adapted quickly to the car as well as the seating position."
Frentzen has been declared fit to race next weekend after undergoing precautionary checks following a heavy smash during his Silverstone run. The German, who began his F1 career with Sauber, is looking forward to racing an F1 car for the first time since Arrows' last race at the German GP in July.
"The seating position is still a compromise and we will try to improve it prior to the US Grand Prix," said Frentzen. "But I am very happy I can race for the team at this early stage."
The team has yet to confirm whether Massa will return for the last race of the season at Suzuka or if Frentzen, who will drive for the team alongside Nick Heidfeld in 2003, will stay on.
