Button can't get a grip
The twisty Hungaroring circuit was expected to allow the Renault drivers to benefit from the R202's excellent traction, but despite showing well in the first timed session only Jenson Button managed to scrape into the top 10 by the end of the day
The Englishman was just a fraction quicker than team-mate Jarno Trulli, but was far from happy with the performance of his car.
"To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed to finish in 10th today," he admitted. "I thought we seemed pretty competitive this morning, but we didn't manage to keep that level of performance. The car lacks all-round grip - we didn't really find the right answers today and need to work hard before tomorrow morning."
Like Button, Trulli wants more from his car for Saturday's qualifying session: "We definitely need to work harder to improve the balance of the car before tomorrow morning. It's up to us to improve our level of performance in order to get the best out of the package."
Trulli ended the day in 11th spot with a best time of 1m18.360s, almost two seconds down on Michael Schumacher's pace-setting Ferrari.
